Not a factory stamp
Rustication on an Asikyan pipe is cut by hand. It is used when the grain will not carry a smooth finish, and just as often as a deliberate surface — closer to jewelry than to hiding the wood. Pipedia and the Facebook plates show the same habit: honeycomb, open craters, dragon scale, a lattice cage on a double-wall freehand.

Ukulele 493/26 is a pale cratered bowl from the stock album. Bent brandy 491/26 carries dragon-scale rustication and a gold mark on the stem. Apple 487/26 is a red sister piece with a pierced spur. None of these textures is a mould. The tool follows the bowl; the bowl keeps its Danish line.
Art carved, double wall
On the lattice freehands the outer cage is carved open and the inner chamber is held apart. That is sculpture and engineering at once: the smoke still travels a drilled airway; the eye reads a basket or a weave. The rustication is the drawing. The stamp is still Armenia · Asikyan · Hand Made.
