Where it comes from
Eskimo is a Danish workshop name from the postwar school — a wide, slightly flattened bowl, often with a short shank, meant to sit low and broad. It is a cousin of the tomato and the pot. The name is of its time; the geometry is the point. Sixten Ivarsson’s circle and the makers who followed them spread it. It is not an English factory Group shape.
The specification
Bowl: wide, flattened on the flanks, often a little oval when viewed from above. Shank: short. 274/22 is the Eskimo in the cabinet: art rusticated on the crown (cratered plateau), flame grain left smooth on the sides. 2022 archive. No millimetres. Next to the tomato and the ukulele
A tomato is flatter still. A ukulele keeps more height in the bowl. The Eskimo is the wide Danish middle. If that 2022 plate is the pipe you mean, the serial is 274/22.
